Marielou is a pretty, sweet teenager. She is supported by Heger in her studies. She also lives in the small village, which is located directly by the sea. Her father is a fisherman. Marielou fights for Thomas Heger and does everything so that he is quickly released from jail.

Høeg was born in Copenhagen, Denmark. Before becoming a writer, he worked variously as a sailor, ballet dancer and actor (in addition to fencing and mountaineering)—experiences that he uses in his novels.
