Filmtipp auf Nokbew’s Blog: Rückfälle | Spielfilm | Mit Günter Lamprecht im 16:9 Format auf YouTube| Deutschland 1977

Beeindruckendes Sozialdrama von 1977, um einen rückfälligen Alkoholiker. Spielort: Deutschland.

The album ‚The Six Wives of Henry VIII‘

The Six Wives of Henry VIII is the first studio album by English keyboardist Rick Wakeman, released in January 1973 on A&M Records. It is an instrumental progressive rock album with its concept based on his interpretations of the musical characteristics of the wives of Henry VIII. After signing with A&M as a solo artist, Wakeman decided on the album's concept during a tour of the United States with the progressive rock band Yes. As he read a book about the subject on his travels, melodies he had written the previous year came to him and were noted down. The album was recorded throughout 1972 with musicians from Yes and The Strawbs, the group Wakeman was in prior to Yes, playing on the album.

Background

The Six Wives of Henry VIII received mostly positive reviews from critics. It reached number 7 on the UK Albums Chart and number 30 on the Billboard 200 in the United States. It was certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America in 1975 for over 500,000 copies sold in the United States. In 2009, Wakeman performed the album in its entirety for the first time at Hampton Court Palace as part of the 500th anniversary celebration of Henry's accession to the throne, released as The Six Wives of Henry VIII Live at Hampton Court Palace. The tracks were rearranged with sections, including a track dedicated to Henry himself, that were left off the original album due to the limited time available on a single record. The Six Wives of Henry VIII was reissued in 2015 with a quadraphonic sound mix and bonus tracks.

Rick Wakeman

Richard Christopher Wakeman CBE (born 18 May 1949) is an English keyboardist and composer best known as a former member of the progressive rock band "Yes" across five tenures between 1971 and 2004, and for his solo albums released in the 1970s. All Music describes Wakeman as a "classically trained keyboardist extraordinaire who plied his trade with "Yes" and developed his own brand of live spectacular in a solo act."

Born and raised in West London, Wakeman quit his studies at the Royal College of Music in 1969 to become a full-time session musician. His early sessions included "Space Oddity", among other tracks, for David Bowie, and songs by Elton John, Marc Bolan, Cat Stevens, and Lou Reed. In 1970 Wakeman joined the folk rock group "The Strawbs," during which his virtuosity gained national press coverage. He left in 1971 to join "Yes," with whom he played on some of their most influential albums across two stints until 1980. During this time Wakeman began a solo career in 1973 and became an iconic and prominent figure in progressive rock. His highest-selling and most acclaimed albums are his first three: The Six Wives of Henry VIII (1973), the UK number-one Journey to the Centre of the Earth (1974), and The Myths and Legends of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table (1975), all concept albums. In 1974 he formed his band, The English Rock Ensemble, with which he toured worldwide and continued dues to perform, and went on to score his first major film, Lisztomania (1975).

Are you more of a leader or a follower?

Since I was one of six siblings, I quickly developed into a mediator and mediator between the older and younger siblings. So I became more of a leader than a follower. Later, my fellow human beings pushed me into the role of leader again and again. So today I’m clearly the leader and not a follower, although I don’t really want to.
