The Berger family

  • The Berger family is at the center of the narrative. Jasper, the third-born, is the narrator. He is ten years old. The family lives in a small town in Hesse, Germany. Father: Erhardt Berger, Mother: Doris Berger, Siblings are: Ute, Lutz, Harald, and Volker.
  • Erhardt Berger is the father of the Berger family. His wife is Doris Berger, and his children are Ute, Lutz, Jasper, Harald, and Volker. He is a bus driver in the county town of Marburg/Lahn, because he does not want to work in his father’s painting business. He repairs everything that needs to be repaired.
  • Doris Berger is the mother of the Berger family. Her husband is Erhardt Berger, and her children are Ute, Lutz, Jasper, Harald, and Volker. In the story, she is first a housewife, then she has small jobs, and then she is an employee at the Ferrero company in Stadtallendorf. She always tries to solve the family’s money problems. Legal and illegal.
  • Ute is the eldest child of Doris and Erhardt Berger. During the narration, she will become twelve years old. The name of her twin brother is Lutz, as they are fraternal twins. Jasper, Harald, and Volker are her younger brothers.

  • Thomas is the eleven-year-old son of Waldemar and Uta Holz.

Family Doktor

  • Mrs. Doktor is the mother of Detlef Doktor and Michaela Doktor.

  • Kerstin is the coming girlfriend and first big love of Lutz.
  • Wolfgang is a boy in the vicinity and a friend of Lutz, Harald, and Jasper. He is twelve years old.
  • Michael is a boy in the vicinity and a friend of Lutz, Harald, and Jasper. He is nine years old.
  • Rüdiger Vaupel is a boy in the vicinity and a friend of Lutz, Harald, and Jasper. He is ten years old.

  • “Ami,” a short friendly term for “American,” means US-American in Germany.
  • Sister Agnes is a nun and at the same time, the nurse in the village of Niederwald.
  • Mr. Maier is the policeman in the small town.
  • Mr. Kowalski is a potato farmer and wants his money.
  • Mr. Debus is the bailiff in the small town and has a lot of work to do with the Berger family.
  • Miss Müller is the co-worker of the bailiff, Mr. Debus.
  • Häsichenbraut: Character from Grimm’s fairy tales.

Remark
